You know the old saying "An army marches on its stomach"? Well, the same can be said for a farm family. For many generations, home raised and homecooked food has been a staple here at Homeland Farm.
Beef cattle and milk cows, pigs, and poultry were all raised to feed the families that called this place home. Vegetable gardens were planted to produce as much as possible so there was not only fresh food to eat, but also enough to can or in more recent years, freeze. Fruit trees and berry beds were planted to provide apples for applesauce and berries to eat and make into preserves.
This cookbook "Recipes from Homeland Farm" is a collection of recipes, new and old, gathered from the recipe card files of all of the women in this family. Some of these recipes are 60, 70, 80 years old, and have been passed down through the generations. Some are new from over the last 20 years or so. In today's world of recipes that often feature a full page of often hard to find ingredients and a lengthy instruction description, these simple, but delicious recipes are a nice change. A chance to step back in time, prepare and taste simple hearty food from a different era.
